Texas, The Lone Star State

I have never visited another state in the union where the citizens are so proud of their state history, symbols and flag. Everywhere we visited we saw the Texas flag and Lone Star pasted all over signs, buildings, clothing and accessories, even dishware and linens. Most of the images in this slide show are from Nacogdoches, Texas. You may remember this small area of Texas from the space shuttle Columbia disaster, many parts of it were recovered from Nacogdoches. This town has the distinction of being "the oldest town in Texas." It also happens to be where Fred's family travels to shop at Walmart, Kroger, and many other convenient stores. It also is the home of Stephen F. Austin State University. We visited the welcome center and learned much about its history, but we really enjoyed the Heart of Texas gift shop the most!
